About our homepage

Our homepage has changed

Our new homepageWith over 16 million unique visits per month, our homepage is a key way of communicating and engaging with our wide range of audiences, from prospective students to business partners. It needs to direct people quickly to the information they're interested in and also give visitors a real flavour of what we're about.

In March 2013 we published the new version of our homepage. The previous design was five years old, and while there were some aspects of it that worked well, we didn't feel it was meeting the current and future needs of our users and the University as well as it could.

The new design retains the impact of our old design while also providing extra space to promote multiple stories, news, events, multimedia content and more. We hope this will provide a much more engaging and interesting experience for our users. It will also help us overcome some of the restrictions of our previous design, which only has space to promote one story.

The large number of links from the large navigation panel on the current design have now been organised into a new, interactive navigation menu that sits across the top of the page. The links to our prospective student sections accounted for over 35% of clicks on the previous design, so in the new design we've pulled these out into their own box to help people locate them quickly.

The new homepage is also built to be responsive, which means that it is easy to use on whichever type of device you view it on. Do try it on a desktop, tablet or mobile phone to see how it looks and works. If you have any feedback then you can get in touch with us using webmarketing@sheffield.ac.uk.
