Why Control and Systems Engineering?

Systems and control theory plays a crucial role in modern science and technology as well as in economics, management and even politics. We believe that no other branch of engineering has a wider impact or more potential to contribute to the future prosperity and economic competitiveness of the UK. Indeed, the UK Government has recently identified robotics and autonomous systems as one of eight “great technologies” which will propel future UK growth.

PhD Key Facts

Start date: End of September/Beginning of February

Duration: Typically 3 years (full-time)

Entry requirements: We generally require a good undergraduate Honours degree (UK 2:1 or better) or MSc (merit or distinction) in a relevant science or engineering subject. Overseas candidates - please refer to guidance on equivalent qualifications provided by the International Office

Language requirements: IELTS 6.5 (with at least 6 in each component) / TOEFL 88+
