Schools Outreach

The Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering is active in outreach to the local community, generally through schools.
Our main aim is to give school age pupils an opportunity to experience university level engineering and hence to appreciate the variety of exciting engineering careers available.
This outreach involves many aspects, such as those detailed below.

Arkwright Scholarships
Arkwright Scholarships are prestigious awards given to pupils entering year 12 as an encouragement to consider engineering careers. For the past two years, the University of Sheffield, through our department, has hosted these interviews and provided the challenge activity for the interviewees.

Design and Technology A level

Our department is committed to the future of engineering in this country and hence has agreed to help the OCR examination board in supporting and promoting the systems and control route through Design and Technology GCSE and GCE.

Master Classes
From time to time the department contributes masterclasses for the gifted and talented in the local area. We may be able to cater for a group from your school depending upon timing.
