The University of Sheffield Library offers an External Borrower Service to Alumni of the University.
Graduates with undergraduate or higher degrees from the University of Sheffield can apply for free membership of this scheme, which enables you to borrow books from Western Bank Library, St. George's Library, and the Health Sciences Library (based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and the Northern General Hospital). You do not necessarily need to be resident in Sheffield, but will need to have access to the University to register and be able to return books when they are due back. To join, take proof of address (eg driving licence or utility bill), and proof of graduation (your degree certificate) to one of the Library sites listed above. You will be asked to fill in the relevant form, and you'll usually be registered the same day. If you are in any doubt, you can email the library to check whether your qualification from the University falls into the "undergraduate/higher degree" category.
NEW – Now Access Electronic Journals
Non-University members registered as University of Sheffield Library users can access many of the electronic journals from the University’s portfolio (those electronic journals where the publisher permits access to authorised walk-in users). Access is provided via dedicated computers based in Western Bank Library, St George’s Library, and the Health Sciences Library at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and the Northern General Hospital. See the link below or ask at one of these Library sites for details.
If you need help using any part of the Library service please email library@sheffield.ac.uk or telephone 0114 222 7200.
