What has the Alumni Fund achieved so far?

Here are just some of the projects that donations to the Alumni Fund have helped to make possible since 2003:
- Over 600 student scholarships, of up to £3,000 each, created since 2003 for gifted students from less well-off backgrounds.
- £60,000 helped to equip the 24-hour Information Commons building with IT equipment, books and high-quality furniture.
- £10,000 helped to refurbish the Disability and Dyslexia Support Centre for students with disabilities
- Over £170,000 awarded in Alumni Fund grants, including:
- Sport: a new scrum machine for the Rugby club; new pitch covers for the Cricket club; new helmets for the Ice Hockey team; and new Firefly dinghies for the Sailing Club.
- Student welfare projects: Nightline (the confidential student listening service); Biteback, a self-help group for students with eating disorders; the Disabled and Dyslexic Students’ Forum; and a grant to buy a life-saving defibrillator for Sheffield Links (the University branch of St John’s Ambulance).
- Music and dance: the University Gospel Choir; the Street Dance Society; the Bollywood Society; and the University Wind Orchestra.
- Drama: sponsorship of the student 24-hour charity musical and grants to enable theatre groups to perform their own plays at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
- Award-winning SheffieldVolunteering activities, such as SIBS (a project for siblings of children with special needs) and the annual Sports Day for children from four local schools. - Over £200,000 of grants to enhance teaching and study facilities in all faculties, including;
- A 21st century news suite for the Department of Journalism.
- A flexible study space for Medical students.
- A tissue hood and incubator for the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
- Refurbishment of the theatre in the School of English.
- A grant for Mechanical Engineering to help the Sheffield Formula Student team build their own car to complete in the International Formula Student Racing competition.
