Subjects/methods: Landscape & Archaeological Survey

The archaeological study of past landscapes and environments is not an end in itself. Rather, as the great French historian Marc Bloch reminded us, `behind the features of the landscape … there are people and it is people that history seeks to grasp´. The University of Sheffield has a well established reputation for research and graduate training in landscape archaeology, and our staff undertake survey and investigations of ancient landscapes in many different world regions.
