Mark Dudek

BA, Dip Arch, RIBA, FRSA

Mark Dudek specialises in design for education. His recent work includes a cycle of five new Surestart Children’s Centres in London, and work for the Aga Kahn Education Development Board, providing a brief and designs for a new kindergarten and school on the Tajikistan – Afganistan border in Central Asia. He has published numerous papers and books on the subject of children’s environments, and addressed many international conferences. He has acted as design adviser for governments and other national bodies in the UK, Luxembourg and Japan. His most recent publication is a second edition of ‘Schools and Kindergartens – a Design Manual’ which is published in four languages including Chinese. He is currently undertaking longditudinal research into the value of good design for young children.

Teaching Activities

Mark undertakes lectures on the history of architecture in the under-graduate school and is developing a Masters in Education Environments with colleagues Slater and Chiles.

Research Interests

The author is developing research into the value of good design in early years and school buildings.

Mark Dudek undertakes consultancy in the UK, Europe and Asia. He is working with colleagues in Michigan USA to promote the educational toys of the nineteenth century pedagogic, Friederich Froebel.
