I am an architectural designer and academic specialising in public space. I studied at the London Metropolitan University, the Royal College of Art and at the Bartlett, University College London where I completed my PhD in architecture (architectural design). My practice led research focussed on the production of public space through democratic spatial practice and activism and forms the basis of my forthcoming book (2013), The Empty Place: Democracy and Public Space, Taylor and Francis. I am a founding Member of the Taking Place collective. I run a practice with my husband Mat Churchill providing temporary and portable theatre spaces for theatre producers in the UK and USA.
I am also a committed teacher, my previous teaching was at the schools of architecture at the University of Brighton and the University of Cambridge
