Research Associate
PhD, M.Sc.
I obtained my first degree and MSc in physics. After completing PhD in acoustics, I worked as a research associate in the University of Ferrara, Italy on the project of Auralization in School Classrooms. In 2007 I moved to Sheffield to join the acoustic team of the School of Architecture in an EU TOK Marie Curie project on auralisation in urban spaces. Since 2010 I have been working as a research associate in HOSANNA project (Holistic and sustainable abatement of noise by optimised combinations of natural and artificial means) funded by the Seventh EU Framework Program.
| Teaching Activities |
“Ecotect” for 1st and 2nd UG of the Sheffield School of Architecture as part of a teaching module “CAAD project work”. Acoustics for 1st Year UG Teaching and technical support for PhD and Masters students from the Architecture and Civil and Structural Engineering Engineering departments, University of Sheffield. Supervising internship Master students. |
| Research Interests |
My research interest is in sustainable design of indoor and outdoor spaces, architectural, environmental and room acoustics, noise control and sound perception. I also keen of exploring acoustic challenges in Green Buildings such as acoustic benefit and challenges of thermally high-performing buildings; acoustics and use of sustainable materials and phase-changing materials. Other research interests cover computer simulation of room acoustics and environmental acoustics, auralisation, psychological aspects of sounds, acoustic environment for hearing impaired people, speech intelligibility, and acoustic properties of vegetation. |

2012 – SEED (Sheffield Engineering Enterprise Development). The funding provides resources to buy around 10 days worth of your time to help develop your engagement with industry or enterprise. 2009 - EPSRC (Through Bridging The Gaps) grant for interdisciplinary research between Architecture and Computer Sciences department, University of Sheffield. (Joined with prof. Jian Kang) The objective of the research was to integrate acoustic simulation and auralisation with interactive visual animation of urban environment and to determine a simplification algorithm for delivering aural perception in real-time audiovisual interactive modeling of urban spaces. 2005 - Student Support Award of the Committee on International Research and Education (CIRE), Acoustical Society of America. |
