BA Hons, DipArch

I am an ARB registered architect and I run my own practice, Paul Testa Architecture. I am especially interested in the way buildings are procured and made; the nuts and bolts of the process. Technology is something that can enhance buildings and the built environment functionally, aesthetically and environmentally.

Teaching Activities

My teaching approach is very much practice lead. Through my practice I aim to explore the relationship between materials and context and also how a fundamentally sustainable approach to design can produce more comfortable and enjoyable spaces in which to live and work.

Design and research are inextricably linked in my practice and the integration of studio and lectures is really important to how I approach my teaching. This ethos of practical and material led investigation is key to the way I teach in both studio and in the construction and materials lecture course.

I teach year 2 design studio and, as well as my year 2 Environment and Technology coordination, I teach the construction and materials lecture component of the module. I am also an MArch Environment and Technology internal examiner.

Administrative Roles

I support the year 2 Director in my role as year 2 Co-Director, involved in everything from brief writing and course administration to student pastoral care. I am also the year 2 Environment and Technology module leader working to move the course forwards and to coordinate the multi discipline teaching.

Grants, Awards, & Consultancy

I am a regular visiting panel member at the Barnsley Renaissance Design Advisory Panel and I am a trustee on the committee at the Sheffield Civic Trust.
