John-Paul Walker combines both practice and academia, the one constantly informing the other.

In practice he is principle of JPW [architects], an innovative practice that combines historic expertise with a contemporary and sustainable approach to design. His hands on approach to design in reflected in his furniture design as part of JPW [design].

His roles have included regional architect for English Heritage and framework architect for both the YHA and Birmingham City Council. He is an active member of the IHBC and AABC, reflecting his significant expertise in dealing with historic and listed buildings.

In academia he closely involved with both the University of Sheffield School of Architecture and CEM (Reading University).

  • Joint co-ordinator of MA Conservation & Regeneration and MArch, University of Sheffield School of Architecture.
  • Design tutor, University of Sheffield School of Architecture.
  • Associate Tutor at CEM (Reading University).
