In the latest destinations survey, 92% of our MArch graduates and 87% of our BA graduates were in graduate-level employment for which their qualification was a formal requirement or an advantage.
The track record of our graduates from all levels of the school at gaining work is remarkable. They find work in the best and most interesting architecture practices; in academic positions around the world; in social enterprise organizations and in fields as diverse as conservation, fashion, real estate development and engineering. Many of our graduates are entrepreneurs – in commercial and in social contexts.
‘What we find with graduates from Sheffield is that they are really good at thinking around a problem, instead of bashing straight into it.’ was how one practice, which currently employs three of our graduates, explained their experience of Sheffield alumni and why they sought new graduates from Sheffield every year.
Our students are ‘very capable’ in the words of a non-practice employer. As well as design, communication and research skills students learn critical thinking; being confident in using verbal, visual and written communication to express themselves; listening and negotiating; interpersonal skills; time management, self management and project management skills; research skills; professional awareness and an ability to analyse and synthesise complex information. Our students are researchers. If they don’t know the answers they have a good idea how to find them. We believe that this is the best way to prepare them for meaningful, fulfilling and future-proof careers.
