MArch in Architecture and Town Planning (RIBA Pt 2 and RTPI) Dual TRP

The MArch in Architecture course at the University of Sheffield is a two-year, full time, professionally validated course in architecture that carries RIBA Part 2 exemption.

The MArch course is one of the most innovative and most influential in the country. It prepares students to be enterprising, employable and to use their skills to the benefit of people’s lives. At the heart of the course is a range of specialist design studios and our innovative ‘live projects’ programme, offering between them excellent opportunities for students to develop graduate-level research by design.

Design studios are based around specialist studios that explore current challenges and opportunities in architecture. Students are encouraged to develop a critical approach to the production of architecture in contemporary society, learning from the past and visioning the future. The design studios offer students the freedom to experiment with ambitious and innovative spatial proposals and develop their own lines of enquiry while being supported by tutors who offer excellent specialist research and practice experience.

Live projects are student-led design projects with real community clients. They reveal the benefits of socially-engaged design and collaborative working, producing outcomes that make a real difference for the communities with which they work.

Each studio and live project has a mix of 5th and 6th year MArch, specialist taught masters and Erasmus exchange students. Our students are flexible and critical thinkers who work well in groups and individually. The course enables students to make sophisticated architectural propositions that respond creatively to their social, economic, political, cultural and technical contexts.

In addition to their core modules, students choose from a range of option modules that will enhance their specialist skills.

Although the deadline 30th April 2013 has passed we are still accepting applications from suitable candidates.

Please contact s.samra@sheffield.ac.uk if you would like to apply.

International Students

Only candidates who have a previous qualification in architecture can be considered for admission to this professionally validated course.

Candidates from overseas schools of architecture that are recognised by the RIBA, should note that you will still need to have your Part 1 confirmed by ARB (Architect's Registration Board) if you intend to work in the UK after completing your MArch and gain your Part 3.

International candidates from outside of the European Union who have studied at a school of architecture that is not recognised by the RIBA must apply direct to ARB to take Part 1 as an external candidate. Any offer of a place on the MArch in Architecture would be conditional on you gaining your Part 1 prior to commencing the course. This would involve attending an interview with ARB in London.
