Your study will include modules like Religion, Theology and the Bible at Work, and The Bible, Religion and Education. We've developed these specifically to strengthen your workplace skills.

Some of our graduates go on to work within faith communities. The possibilities are much wider than that, though. Journalism, social work, the media, cultural industries and the arts, web design, charity, teaching, retail management, healthcare, banking, advertising, public relations. Or you might carry on studying at postgraduate level. Our degree courses have a superb track record of employability, with virtually all our students securing jobs or continuing to study.

Developing skills and preparing you for employment

The skills that you'll acquire—clear analytical thinking, precise and persuasive presentation, project creation, group work,time management, computer literacy and information gathering, clearly structured writing—will be vital in getting a job and in keeping you employable.

During your course you'll become adept at analysing, evaluating and synthesising information from a range of sources. You'll learn to see, understand and explain ideas and opinions from very different perspectives. You'll also be encouraged to identify patterns, solve problems and develop original responses to the questions posed.

Our mixture of learning and teaching methods will hone your presentation skills, so you can be both persuasive and precise. Several modules include group-work components, while at level 3 the dissertation module (compulsory) gives you experience of project planning. You will also need good time management skills, and a coherent writing style, to get your coursework completed successfully.

The opportunity to learn Hebrew and Greek gives you access to individual biblical texts and their ambiguities; this will also require you to develop a good eye for detail.

Our approach ensures that the skills you gain in this Department are just as valuable as the information you acquire. 

By the end of your course, you'll be able to examine and analyse the Bible at an advanced level and have a degree from one of Britain's top universities, but you also will have gained valuable job skills that employers are looking for when hiring and later, when promoting.
