Mr Christopher Meredith
Chris Meredith's first degree (BA) was in Modern History at the University of Leeds, where he studied Classical Hebrew and then New Testament Greek alongside his degree course. After graduating in 2006 he moved to the Biblical Studies department at Sheffield to undertake his MA; his Masters research focused on the literary structure of 1 Samuel 1-6 (later published under the article title: 'A Case of Open and Shut').
In addition to his lecturing responsibilities, Chris is currently working towards his PhD.

Spatial Theory & The Song of Songs Cheryl Exum
Texts build worlds; they create conceptual vistas for readers to inhabit along with their characters. Transposing contemporary spatial theory for literary analysis, my research examines how power is mediated through spatiality in the Song of Songs, how space and gender operate as co-constructions in the text, and how spatial analysis can open up radical re-readings of gendered /spaced identities in the poem. Can the obvious binarisms of inside/outside and male/female hold, or is this tricky text also a paradoxical geography?
