Dr. Diana V. Edelman currently holds the rank of Reader in the History, Archaeology and Literature of the Ancient Southern Levant. She did her undergraduate work at Smith College and her further studies at the University of Chicago. She works in biblical interpretation, history and ancient Levantine archaeology. Her primary areas of research interest are ancient Israelite religion, the development of monotheism and early Judaisms, Yehud in the Persian period, Judah in the Neo-Babylonian period, and ancient history and historiography.

Among her publications are her books, The Origins of the "Second Temple": Persian Imperial Policy and the Rebuilding of Jerusalem and King Saul in the Historiography of Judah, and her five edited volumes, The Fabric of History, You Shall Not Abhor an Edomite, The Triumph of Elohim: From Yahwisms to Judaisms, The Production of Prophecy: Constructing Prophecy and Prophets in Yehud, and A Palimpsest: Rhetoric, Ideology, Stylistics and Language Relating to Persian Israel. In addition, she has written many articles, especially relating to King Saul. She is co-chair of Israel and the Production and Reception of Authoritative Books in the Persian and Hellenistic Periods section for the European Association of Biblical Studies and is an abstractor for Old Testament Abstracts.
