The Theme of 1 Corinthians 5- 11.1: Forming Social Identity of the Church as Called-to-be-sanctified People in Christ
James Crossley

The purpose of my thesis is to demonstrate that a reinterpretation of 1 Corinthians 5-11.1 using a social identity approach can enhance our appreciation of the design of Paul in these 6 chapters in terms of consistency and coherence. As a result, the five 'apparent contradictions' and 'three digressions' commonly labelled by commentators in this section of 1 Corinthians can be understood in a more consistent and coherent manner.
