Ah, Sheffield!

Barkers Pool - Sheffield City Centre

Salaam, I'm Tanzila Mukhtar. I'm from Kashmir India, and I'm fortunately enrolled on the one-year Taught Programme for Masters, from the Department of Biomedical Science at the University of Sheffield. The gateways, pathways, cycles, molecules have always energized me and that probably played a vital role in me selecting the course but I still wonder, what played a role in me being selected.

The Department is the best place for one's intellectual growth. They make you think, understand, learn, explain, discuss, write, present, decide and best of all, mature. It has been a couple of weeks in the Department for me and I feel so attached to it. The staff is warm and welcoming. There is a lot of self-study involved, off-course with efficient guidance and that specially helps you to nurture your own habits and formulate your methods to do Science.

The modules are perfectly designed and every student finds their special areas of interest always and so are the projects. You get a variety, you get to create a proposal, you attend seminars, analyse them, work in great labs and lot more.

And for the city, Sheffield is totally vibrant, culturally rich and cosmopolitan, although not as dynamic and fast as London, but Sheffield has its own charm. It has museums, galleries, gardens, theatres, pubs, bars and variety of restaurants. The actual shopping feat is seen in Meadowhall, billed as Europe´s most successful mall. Sheffield is famous for the emerging young bands and not to forget the night life. It´s pulsating! You could do a lot of outdoor sports as well like walking, cycling, pot-holing, trekking, climbing and many more.

The University provides access to free health services. There are sports and games you can play; they have wonderful collection of books in the libraries, which you can access online from your room. You always stay connected to your Professors and friends through the university intranet and you remain updated with all the events happening around you, which is amazing. The Student's Union is quite hyper-active, they have something to interest you every time you attend events, make new friends, lots of them, and above all you have fun while you learn.

Sheffield has been and I'm sure will continue to be the best experience of my life so, what are you waiting for, feel the magic! All the best

Tanzila... :)
