Electron Microscopy Unit

This comprises The Wellcome Centre for Electron Microscopy, the Structural Biology Group facility within the Department of Molecular Biology and the Biotechnology, and the Histology and Histochemistry laboratory within the Department of Biomedical Science. It is available for Biomedical researchers from within the University and business community across Sheffield and South Yorkshire.

Located in Firth Court, the custom built laboratories, offices and microscope suites offer a range of facilities including transmission and scanning electron microscopes, plus two new "state of the art" instruments that permit cryoelectron microscopical examination of protein structures. The Histology and histochemistry laboratory is equipped for the preparation of wax or resin embedded tissues and for the handling of frozen sections.

The Electron Microscopy Unit is Open 09:30-17:30 Monday-Friday. Service assistance usually available: 11:00-17:30 Monday to Friday. Please contact: Dr Svet Tsokov or Chris Hill (ext 24674) for further information and advice.
