My aims are to contribute to the departmental goals of providing both an optimal environment to enable excellent research and student training, and to help embed a culture that recognises the importance of economic and social impact.

I am based in the MRC Centre for Biomedical and Biomedical Genetics in the Department of Biomedical Science. My role is to facilitate the progression of research by identifying potential partners and appropriate funding opportunities through, for example, Research Councils, Charities or industry. Collaborative links with industry are very important to us and can be through their participation in teaching, consultancy or research. More specifically, I can assist academics with applications and provide project management as necessary. I collate information regarding the achievements of all members of the Department of Biomedical Science and help to ensure its wider recognition via the University.

I am also the Student Placement Officer for the Department of Biomedical Science and together with the University Careers Service, I promote 1year industrial placements to 2nd year undergraduates and act as their contact while they are on placement.

Biography

I graduated with a first class degree in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford in 1989. I then went on to study for a Ph. D. at European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany with Dr. Dirk Bohmann.

After post-doctoral training with Prof Stefan Jentsch at the ZMBH, Univeristy of Heidelberg, I joined GPC Biotech Inc. (then Mitotix Inc.) in Cambridge, MA, USA in 1996, and worked in a number of scientific and development roles.

On relocating to Germany, I was recruited to another biotech company, iOnGen AG, in 2002 working in Business Development and then QA/QC. Following a move to Sheffield in 2006, I had the opportunity to work for Fusion IP plc, the University of Sheffield's commercialisation partner, prior to taking up my position in the Department of Biomedical Science in 2007.
