BRIDGING THE GAPS BETWEEN MATHEMATICS, ICT AND ENGINEERING RESEARCH

WELCOME TO THE BRIDGING THE GAPS WEB PAGES

A collaboration between the Departments of Chemical & Process Engineering and Applied Mathematics has involved the validation of a mathematical model for the pressure driven flow of a non-Newtonian fluid in a microchannel T-junction.

The University of Sheffield has recently been successful in securing a grant from EPSRC under their 'Bridging the Gaps' Initiative. This £350k grant provides funding to foster the development of links between researchers in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science and Information / Communications technology.

The grant is based around four research themes:

  • Uncertainty
  • Data and Performance Analysis
  • Design validation
  • Multi-physics and multi-scale modelling.

Funding

Funding is available for members of University staff (academic and research) and research students to build these links by means of the following mechanisms:

  • Fully-funded discipline Hopping Secondments
  • Themed retreats
  • Research pump-priming awards
  • Themed Seminars
  • Industrial hot-house
  • Industrial exchange fellowships
  • Funded flagship research projects
  • Conference buddy scheme
  • Funding to host visiting scholars.
