Fairs and events

This section of our website describes the recruitment fairs organised throughout the year.

Raising your profile

We offer a number of on-campus activities which enable you to raise awareness of your organisation amongst our international students, eg Presentations and One-to-One Sessions.

Employment legislation - keeping up to date

It is important that you are aware of the legislation that affects the employment of international students and graduates in the UK. This is an area which is undergoing significant change so you need to be certain that you are up to date with current schemes and how they operate.

Employing international students
Most international students have permission to work while they are registered as a student in the UK (up to 20 hours per week during semesters and full-time during vacation). An overview of the regulations is provided in the publication "A guide for employers recruiting international students and graduates" available to download from the right hand menu.

Employing international graduates
For the most recent information on current schemes and legislation, download the publication "A guide for employers recruiting international students and graduates" from the right hand menu, and see the websites of the Home Office UK Border Agency and the UK Council for International Student Affairs, both also available on the right.

National Insurance
All international students and graduates require a National Insurance Number. They can apply for one if they are either starting work, are able to provide a firm written offer of employment, or are actively seeking work. Information about how students can obtain a NI number is given in "Find your way to work" available on the right.
