Forging Links within the University
We can help you develop relationships with appropriate academic departments or put you in touch with other parts of the University such as the Students' Union and student societies. This will gain you a wide exposure on campus and enable you to connect with talented students.
Working with Faculties and Departments
Our dedicated team of Employer Relations Officers works closely with the University's five Faculties. If you are keen to establish closer relationships with specific academic departments we can facilitate links with appropriate staff.
There are a range of ways in which employers can work with academic departments. Examples include:
- Meeting with key members of academic staff to discuss areas for collaboration
- Providing a project for students to work on as part of their course
- Offering a case study which can be built into the curriculum
- Offering competitions, prizes and other awards
- Holding a guest lecture
- Arranging a site visit which could as part of a course
Employers who wish to develop long-term partnerships with the following faculties can also connect with the University's Gateways.
Using the Students' Union to promote your organisation
Reach out to students via the Students' Union which has been rated the best in the UK in the 2013 Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey. There are a number of options for employers wishing to raise their profile by working closely with the Students' Union including:
- Advertising in Forge Press, their fortnightly newspaper for students
- Booking a stand in the entrance area of the busy Students' Union main building
- Providing support for Union activities and events
Supporting and working with student societies
There are over 250 societies and nearly 30 working and representative committees at the University of Sheffield. Many of these are keen to offer employers opportunities to raise their profile amongst their members by becoming involved in their activities or providing sponsorship. They can offer you:
- Exposure to students from a particular course or with specific interests
- Publicity via their websites, mailing lists, e-newsletters, flyers etc.
- The opportunity to have a presence at an event
