Skills for Success Sessions
What is ‘Skills for Success’?
‘Skills for Success’ is a series of sessions which provides students in all years of study and all subjects of study with the opportunity to learn about and practise some of the key skills which employers look for in graduates - all sessions are interactive and are run as workshops rather than talks.
Employers who are keen to raise their profile on-campus are invited to be involved in delivering these events. The sessions are popular and provide an excellent opportunity to meet students in an informal environment where students learn from each other and from the expertise of the session leaders.
Sessions focus on employability skills and typical topics include leadership, team building, commercial awareness, time management, presentation skills, communication skills, problem-solving etc. We are always open to suggestions for new sessions so please get in touch if you have an idea you would like to discuss. We can also organise sessions specifically targeted at Postgraduate Researchers. Sessions on Applications and Interviews are not included as part of our Skills for Success programme but these can be arranged as part of our wider Careers Programme.
Sessions usually commence at 2.00 pm and last for around 2 hours. They can be arranged between mid-October to early-December during the Autumn Semester and mid-February to early-May during the Spring Semester.
We have locations on campus which can accommodate up to 30 participants in a flexible, group-work layout. Alternatively, we can give you details of local venues which might be suitable (charges incurred).
Charges
There is no charge to employers for taking part in Skills for Success.
How are Skills for Success Sessions publicised?
Sessions are advertised via our online What’s On Diary, our What’s On Weekly email to students and flyers. Interested students sign up to attend sessions and those taking part in five or more sessions receive a Certificate of Attendance. Students may also use their involvement as evidence for the Sheffield Graduate Award.
