Criminal Record

If you have ever been convicted of a criminal offence or cautioned by the police you may be unsure about whether or not you should disclose this fact when applying for jobs or for certain types of professional training. You may also be concerned about the likely effect of such disclosure.

The appropriate course of action will vary according to the nature of the offence, the type and length of sentence and the area of employment in which you are interested.

Careers Advice

If you wish to discuss your situation with a Careers Adviser, please speak to one of the staff in the Careers Service or call us on 0114 2220910. Initial discussions with an Adviser usually take place in a relatively open setting so if this raises concerns about privacy, please mention this so that we can make alternative arrangements. Any information that you provide will be treated in the strictest confidence and staff will at all times adopt an objective and non-judgmental approach to your situation.

Email Enquiry Service

If you prefer not to visit us in the Careers Service you can send a request for information or advice via our Email enquiry service. Just complete the form, explaining your query as fully as possible.
