Research Group:

Professor Phillip Wright's Research Group

Biography:

I have a BSc in Genetics from the University of Glasgow.

Research Interests:

I'm working in a European consortium called CyanoFactory. The purpose of the project is to improve the cyanobacteria 'Synechocystis PCC6803' as a Synthetic Biology chassis; and to make it industrially viable for production of products such as biofuel.

As a proof of principal, the organism is being modified to produce hydrogen gas, please see our website for further details.

Further information:

During my time at the University of Glasgow, I took part in the 2011 iGEM team, which was brilliant fun - if you're thinking about taking part, I strongly recommend it!

My favourite thing about Sheffield is probably having the peak district nearby, although I wish it didn't rain quite so much.

Prizes:

2012: Pontecorvo prize and Pontecorvo Essay prize from the University of Glasgow.

2011: Silver medal at the iGEM European Jamboree.
