Biography

I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2008 with a 1st class MBiolSci degree in Biology. I have a great interest in environmental and energy sustainability, which has developed from my work in various environmental communication and journalism roles. Having to research and write articles on a wide range of sustainable energy and environment issues led me to pursue my interests further in the E-Futures course here at Sheffield.

Research

My PhD project involves optimising anaerobic digestion technologies for use in peri-urban communities in the developing world, which are able to efficiently treat high-solid waste. My research focuses on whether different support materials can immobilise specific bacteria within anaerobic digestion reactors, in order to enhance their activity in biogas production, as well as enhance their ability to treat high solid waste.
