Main responsibilities
- In conjunction with the Departmental Administration Manager and Principal Investigators (PIs), I am responsible for the financial management of research grants and projects and maintain appropriate records in relation to research finance records.
- I liaise with Research Finance, Faculty Finance and the Cross Faculty Finance Team regarding queries and discussions, to ensure that sponsors’ rules are adhered to, expenditure is coded correctly and that projects close promptly. To do this I require, and have, a very good knowledge of the University’s SAP financial system.
- I process the tuition fee and stipend payments for the Department’s research students, which means liaising with student supervisors, the Postgraduate Secretary and the University’s Income Office.
- I provide advice and support to staff and students within the Department on a wide range of financial issues, in compliance with the Financial Directives and internal operational systems to ensure good accounting practice.
- I also provide secretarial support for Professor David James.

Biography
I have previously worked as an Engineering Administrator for a company which produced aerospace parts and hip and shoulder replacements. I had begun training as a Product Engineer until a downturn in business meant I was made redundant. From this role I worked in the NHS, first as a Ward Clerk on a busy surgical ward, then as Support Secretary/Ward Clerk working within CAMHS at the Sheffield Children's Hospital. I joined CBE in 2007 as Finance Secretary and in 2012 I moved into the role of Finance Assistant. As well as working at the University of Sheffield, I am also a Parent Governor and a District Commissioner within Girlguiding Sheffield.
