PhD

Entry requirements
You will hold or expect to receive a first or upper second class degree in chemical engineering. Other degrees such as chemistry, physics, biochemistry, mathematics, materials science and engineering or related disciplines are also acceptable.
Choosing a supervisor
You should choose one or more academics from within the Department as potential supervisors and be prepared to indicate, very generally, the area in which you wish to study.
Funding
You will need to think carefully about funding which will include both fees and living expenses. There are usually few problems for UK students, but it can be more complicated for overseas students. You should investigate all sources of funding in your own country, but please contact us to discuss opportunities.
You may earn extra money by teaching in tutorial classes and laboratories. In addition, a dedicated powerful computer will be available and you will receive funds to attend and participate in overseas international conferences.
When you arrive
Throughout your studies, your research group and the Department provide a high level of support not only through your induction into the Department and into the research process, but also by day-to-day support in developing research skills, formal research training and the opportunity to present your ideas in informal seminars.
We have a thriving research community of about 80 students that organises frequent social events as well as representing the postgraduate students' view point in wider departmental activities.
The next step
If you have any questions, please contact Dr Jonathan Howse, Postgraduate Research Tutor.
