Biological Engineeringbbe

The field of Biological Engineering combines an understanding of cutting edge molecular biology with engineering design principles to the development of the next generation of biologically derived products. These include the high-value biotherapeutics (recombinant therapeutic proteins, stem cells and nanomaterials) through to bulk biomaterials like fuel ethanol or isobutanol. Biological Engineering is concerned with advancing our fundamental understanding of how biological systems operate to develop effective biology-based technologies.

Bioprocess Engineering

Bioprocess engineering is similarly based on chemical engineering design principles but deals directly with the design of industrial production processes for the manufacture of the diverse range of commercially important biologically derived products.

Biological and Bioprocess Engineers have skills vital to solve problems in areas as diverse as industrial biopharmaceutical manufacturing, solving our need for renewable fuels and conducting research at the cutting edge of the life sciences.
