Why you'll love chemistry at Sheffield

Join us and you could play your part in discoveries that improve lives and change the way we see the world.

Chemistry is central to advances in everything from medicine and biology to engineering and clean energy. It's key to understanding the fundamental processes of human life. Our courses give you the knowledge and skills to be part of developments and discoveries like these throughout your career.

And with a wide range of degrees and modules to choose from, you can make your degree your own. You can even spend your third year working in the chemical industry, or studying at a top university in Europe, America or Australia.

We're ranked among the UK's top 10 for teaching and research by the Times and Complete Good University Guides 2012. In the latest Research Assessment Exercise, 70 per cent of our research was rated internationally excellent or world leading.

But what does that mean for you? It means you'll be in the thick of a vibrant research environment, learning about the latest breakthroughs in chemistry.

Just as importantly, it means you'll join a community that's passionate about teaching. All our top researchers also teach. You can find out about their research interests and the undergraduate modules they teach on our staff pages.

We'll bring out the best in you

In your first and second years you'll have weekly small-group tutorials. Throughout, your personal tutor will be on hand to offer one-to-one support and advice. We're a welcoming and relaxed community. If you need extra help, or you just want to talk through your ideas, you'll always find someone to speak to.

And for that extra bit of support, we'll give you a study and lab resource pack when you start.

So as a student with us you'll be challenged. But in return we'll do everything we can to make this the best learning experience for you. In the 2011 National Student Survey, an impressive 95 per cent of our students said they were happy with their learning experience.

You'll join a world-class university and a unique city
