Chemistry with/and Mathematics (MChem or BSc)

Small tutorial classes are an invaluable learning environment.
  • UCAS Code: F1G1/FG11

  • Type of course: MChem/BSc
  • Duration: 4/3 years
  • Entry requirements: Grades BBB/BBB (including grade B in both Chemistry and Mathematics)

There is increasing demand for physical scientists with a strong mathematical background, and this course is designed to appeal to students who wish to maintain contact with their chemical and mathematical interests. This degree offers a programme of study in the more quantitative areas of the subject.

The MChem year includes an extensive research project in Physical or Theoretical Chemistry that makes full use of the chemical and mathematical skills acquired during the preceding three years. The larger proportion of Chemistry in the MChem is reflected in the Degree Title Chemistry with Mathematics.

Teaching & Learning

Teaching is by lectures and tutorials, problem classes, laboratory practicals and computer-aided learning, such as WebCT with online course support and assessment.
