Chemistry with Study in Europe (MChem)

World map indicating Europe
  • UCAS Code: F107
  • Type of course: MChem
  • Duration: 4 years
  • Entry requirements: Grades BBB
  • A minimum of GCSE Maths Grade B, GCSE Language grade A* or A, (A-Level German for placements in Germany) is required for this course.

This course is designed for students who seek to enhance their experience of Chemistry by spending a year studying at a major University in Europe. The single honours MChem Chemistry course provides the core of this four year programme. Intensive language tuition as well as a background to the social, cultural and political aspects of the country to be visited is provided by the Sheffield Modern Language Teaching Centre as part of the academic programme during the first two years.

Students who spend a year studying at a European University acquire a number of advantages:

  • They become truly bi-lingual, both scientifically and socially, and thus command a very high premium in salary in future employment.
  • They become resilient and mature in advance of their peers who remain at home.

In Sheffield, all our F107 students are part of the Erasmus-Socrates European Exchange Programme. As such they:

  • are exempted from all fee payments during their year abroad.
  • are entitled to additional supplementation from Local Authorities towards their travel expenses in travelling to and from home to their Host University.
  • attract an additional maintenance grant (not means-tested) from European funds which, this year, amounted to around £1000.

We offer exchanges with a number of Universities in Europe, mainly in France, Germany, Austria and Spain.
