Chemistry with Study in Japan (MChem)
Opportunities in the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries give special employment advantages for chemists proficient in a foreign language. UniversityStudies during the year would typically involve a research project together with lectures in Chemistry (taught in English) and lectures in Japanese language and culture. You will be given the opportunity to apply for a JASSO (Japan Student Services Organisation) scholarship funded by the Japanese Ministry of Education. These scholarships provide return airfare, a settling in allowance of 25,000 yen (£125)and 80,000 yen per month (£400) for subsistence. Government/Industry PlacementFor placement at a Government research institute or industry, you would be employed on a full-time basis and undertake work as part of a small team. Unlike the University you would receive a monthly salary (typical 140,000 yen pre month) which is subject to tax. Accommodation is normally arrangd through the company/instituet. Students would be responsible for air travel to/from Japan. Teaching & LearningTeaching is by lectures and tutorials, problem classes, laboratory practicals and computer-aided learning, such as WebCT with online course support and assessment.
