There are two ways for staff to buy Apple products for Personal Purposes (and for students to buy Apple products for any purposes) whilst still obtaining the HE discounts and these are described below.

Staff should note that if you use either of these buying methods (ie other than "Shop for your Institution" on the Apple On line store), you will NOT be able to then subsequently claim back the cost of the item(s) from the University as expenses. This is because items bought using the "For Personal Purposes" methods are not an allowable University expense.

One way for staff and students to buy an Apple Macintosh Computer is from the Apple Higher Education Store on-line. The link is shown below and can only be accessed from the University network (or off-campus using a VPN connection).

Buying through this channel is straight-forward and gives you an excellent deal on both the price of the machine and its after-care.

All computers bought through the Apple Store for Education qualify for one year of telephone support for the machine, the operating system and Apple software, and three years limited hardware warranty.

Alternatively, holders of a valid Staff, Associate or Student uCard may purchase an Apple Macintosh Computer in person at any Apple Store.

The nearest Apple Store is at Meadowhall Shopping Centre. It gives you the option to get hands on with the different computers and get advice from the Specialists who work in the store.

You will receive a comparable discount, but your warranty would be restricted to the normal 12 months. In order to get 3 years of after-care you would need to purchase AppleCare. This is available to higher education users at a substantial discount at time of purchase and has the benefit of extending the telephone support to three years as well.
