Networking Information
PCs approved for use with the Managed Desktop have built-in network interfaces. Any other network cards for use with the Managed Desktop are not compatible and should not be used. Other network interfaces should work with unmanaged services as they are based on Novell Client software. This is installed by the suppliers on standard models and is also available from the Computing Centre Reception desk.
Each new network interface must be registered with the CiCS network databases before it will work properly. Information on how to do this can be found through the link below.
Laptops running Windows may be connected to the network using in-built network connectors, which most have. Laptops cannot be configured to run the Managed Desktop service. Many laptops can also use the University wireless network.
