General Settings for Staff Email
If you use an email program (client) not supported by CiCS you can set it up to send and receive email using these settings.
You should use the facilities provided by your email program to create an account that will be used to send and receive email. When setting up the program you may be prompted for the following information.
Email address
To configure your client you will need to provide your full Sheffield email address. Do not use the abbreviated @shef.ac.uk format.
- For staff and research postgraduates this is in the format a.smith@sheffield.ac.uk.
- For taught students who registered before June 2011 this is in the format mda11as@sheffield.ac.uk.
- For taught students who registered after June 2011 this is in the format asmith1@sheffield.ac.uk.
Incoming, Receiving, IMAP or POP Mail Server name:
- As the University system uses an IMAP server, you are advised to set your email program as an IMAP client - rather than a POP client.
- The server name is imap.gmail.com
- The port is 993
- The security type is SSL
Outgoing, Sending or SMTP Mail Server name:
- The server name is smtp.gmail.com
- The port is 465
- The security type is SSL
User Name:
- Your full University Email Address
Password:
- Your usual Network/MUSE/Webmail password.
