Transferring Mail
It is possible to transfer mail to another University Gmail account or to a personal one. Follow the steps below.
Synchronise Password
- Go to the CiCS password page.
- Log in.
- Choose option 4 to Synchronise.
Configure your current University Gmail account
- Log into your University Google Mail account via MUSE.
- Click on the link "Settings" (Top right corner of the Page).
- Select the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab.
- In the "POP Download" section, ensure that "POP" is enabled.
- Click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page.
Configure the account to transfer to
- Log onto the account you want to transfer mail to.
- Click on the link "Settings" (top right corner of the page).
- Select "Accounts and Imports" tab.
- In the "Check mail using POP3" section, click the "Add POP3 E-mail Account" button.
- Enter the email address you are transfering from and click "Next Step" button.

- In the "Add a mail account you own" window enter the following details:
Username: your full email address (for staff the j.smith@sheffield.ac.uk format,for students the mda10jns@sheffield.ac.uk format)
Password:
POP Server: pop.gmail.com
Port: 995
Check "Alway use a secure(SSL) when retrieving mail" Check "Label incoming messages:"

If you follow the wizard through it will ask you about sending mail from your University account too. Select "Yes, I want to be able to send mail as yourusername@sheffield.ac.uk" and accept all the other default setting for sending mail.
Once this is all done you will need to go back to your University Account and look for a confirmation E-mail you will have been sent to you, this contains a link, which must be clicked to activate the link between accounts (this confirmation E-mail may well go straight into your "Spam" folder).
Please note: If your original account is to be suspended you will not be able to send from it.
