Viewing your Email in Eudora
You can view and send messages for the new email service in Eudora.
Synchronise your Passwords
First you will need to synchronise your passwords
- Log into the Account Management System using the link below.
- Click option 4 to synchronise your passwords.
- On the next screen click the 'Synchronise' button.
- Click the 'Logout' button. Your passwords will be synchronised in a few minutes.

If you use a laptop, smartphone or any wireless device to connect to the wireless network you may find that you will need to reset your password on these devices to continue working. See the following link for more details.

Activate IMAP
Next you will need to activate IMAP in the new email service:
- Log in to Google Mail (if this is the first time you will need to accept the terms and conditions and type in the disguised graphical characters).
- Click Settings in the top-right row.
- Click the tab labelled Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
- Click the Enable IMAP option button.
- Click Save Changes.
- Start Eudora
- If this is the first time you have run Eudora, the settings menu appears (or you can get to the settings screen at any time by clicking Special and then Settings whilst in Eudora)
- Fill in the boxes.
The User name is your Network username followed by @sheffield.ac.uk
You should also enter your Real Name so that it can appear in the headers of Outgoing messages.
For Mail Server type imap.gmail.com
For SMTP Server type mailhost.shef.ac.uk - Select the Checking Mail settings dialogue.
A dialogue box will appear.
- Change the Mail Protocol from POP to IMAP to use the IMAP service.
- You can also specify how often you want to check for new mail by checking the Check for mail every ... minutes and specifying a time.
- Click OK and then check your mail.
A dialogue box will prompt you for your Network password, after which your IMAP mail folders will appear.
To complete the setup of Eudora, select the SSL option from the Settings list then check the options as shown below:

In the Secure Socket Layer box:
- SSL for SMTP: Optional (TLS)
- SSL for IMAP: Optional (TLS)
In the Standard Port SSL Negotiation box, check:
- TLS 1.0 (Cyrus)
In the Alternate Port SSL Negotiation box, check:
- Maximum compatibility
Please Note: Some Internet/Network Services do not allow messages to be sent using the default Port: 25
If you find this happening, you will need to change the SMTP (Outgoing) Mail Port to 465 or 587.
Depending on which version of Eudora you are using you should be able to make these changes from the Ports & Protocols (v. 6.2.1) or Sending Mail (v. 6.2.4) items from the Settings menu.
