Connecting to the Internet

From Home

From home you can have a broadband connection and even a personal wireless network, or you can use dial-up over your phoneline.

Public Internet

You can access the internet from Internet cafes found in many big cities and holiday destinations, and increasingly businesses such as hotels, pubs and train companies are providing wireless internet for their customers.

Mobile Networks

Mobile phones and palm computers are providing better internet connectivity and usability. A modem that uses a sim card connected to a mobile phone network, can be used to connect your laptop to the internet.

From the University

At the University you can connect to the wired network wherever there is a data socket, or you have a laptop or mobile computer you can connect to the wireless network.

At a Different Institution

Many academic institutions now provide kiosk computers, which allow secure access to the internet similar to an internet cafe. They may also have a guest wireless network to connect to, or you can log in to eduroam.

For Your Guests Here

For visiting colleagues you can arrange a temporary username and password, they can use kiosks or they can connect their laptop to the guest or eduroam wireless networks.
