Passwords
This page is now outdated. Please see http://www.shef.ac.uk/cics/codeofpractice" for the current IT Code of Practice.
Choose a secure password
You must have a secure password to prevent others from accessing your account. Online criminals use hijacked account details for fraud. Check the following advice about secure passwords
choosing secure passwords (IT Code of Practise)
Don't use the same password for everything
You will need a small number of secure passwords. One for University use, one for financial and banking sites, and one for your social sites.
Don't write your password down
You should never write down your password, and certainly not on a sticky note on your monitor, which is a breach of University regulations. You should not tell anybody else your password.
Changing your password
If your current University password is not secure, or if you are using it for social or banking sites as well as University work, you should change your password now.
