The Staff IT Workshop

This service provides support to staff who are experiencing problems with their computers and laptops (University-owned or funded equipment will be prioritised over personal equipment).

Its primary objective is to restore equipment to a state that allows the member of staff to fulfil their work responsibilities.

We endeavour to resolve issues as quickly as possible and this may mean that it is more appropriate to visit you and examine your equipment in-situ. We also offer Live Support, which allows us to take over your desktop and try to fix problems remotely.

Where it becomes necessary to book your equipment in, work can be assigned to the Staff IT Workshop via the various frontline support services offered by CiCS. Equipment can be brought in by staff or collected from and/or delivered to their department by our van collection service.

The service is available to all holders of Staff and Associate Staff UCards. We may, at our discretion, offer some services to holders of External UCards. Please contact us in advance to enquire about eligibility

It endeavours, where possible, to:

• Back-up all data before effecting any repairs.
• Remove viruses and malware and restore the system to a useable state.
• Repair operating systems.
• Assist in the restoration/retrieval of data.
• Arrange for the repair or replacement of faulty components.
• Offer advice and guidance where queries cannot be resolved by the service.

You can help us by:

• Raising a purchase order as soon as possible in the event that parts need to be ordered to repair your equipment.
• Giving us as much information as possible about your problem so we can make a more accurate and swift diagnosis.
• Ensuring that we have clear access to your equipment when we come to collect it and giving us contact details of someone who can help us if you are not going to be there.
