Installing Thunderbird on a University networked computer
Computers running the Managed Desktop Service
Thunderbird is available as part of the Managed Desktop Service.
- From the desktop or Start menu, run Load Applications Menus.
- After this has been installed: from the Start menu, click Applications, click Utilities, and then click Install Thunderbird Mailer.
Thunderbird will start.
In future you can start Thunderbird from the Start menu, click Programs and then Thunderbird Mailer.
Computers running Unmanaged Windows
Thunderbird has been installed to run from the University network; however, these instructions assume that you have logged into your University network account using Novell Client software.
- Open My Computer or Windows Explorer to access the S:\ drive.
- Open the S:\ drive, select and open the WINXP folder.
- Copy the icon labelled Thunderbird Mailer to your computer's desktop.
This is used to run Thunderbird in the future. - If, in addition, you are converting from using the old Pegasus email program, double click the icon labelled Install Thunderbird Mailer.
If you are asked whether you wish to convert Pegasus Mail messages and distribution lists into Thunderbird, click Yes then wait for the process to complete. - When prompted, enter your usual Network account password.
Click OK
