Associate UCard and Computing Accounts
Associate Categories
Persons with an official association to the University are eligible for an Associate UCard and Computing Account. There are several categories of Associate Staff, these are listed below.
- Honorary Staff
- Medical Honorary Staff
- Student Union Staff
- Visiting Staff
- Retired Staff
- Emeritus Professor
- Casual Worker
All of the above statuses are conferred by the University and a current central record must exist on the relevant systems for CiCS to be able to issue your UCard and Computing Account. Any persons not covered by the above categories can apply for an 'External/Visitor' UCard and Computing Account (see the right hand link).
Associate UCard
Associate UCards have the following uses.
- Photographic ID
- Library borrowing
- Access to buildings (contact Estates department)
- Discounted prices at USport
- Self-Service Photocopying and Printing

Associate Computing Account
Associate Computing Accounts give the user access to the following services
- University managed computing
- Network storage
- University Email account
- Wireless Internet (eduroam)
- Library services and e-resources
Getting your UCard and Account
You will need to bring one of the following to the CiCS Computing Centre on Hounsfield Rd:
- Letter of appointment
- Contract
- Passport
- Driver's licence
- Other photographic identification
If you cannot provide any of the above, please contact personnel who will issue you with a letter confirming your status.
We can only issue your UCard if your period of service record has been activated. Expiry dates will be set according to period of service or a maximum of three years if no date is set.
