Student UCard and Computing Accounts
Student Categories
Students of the University are those that have a current central Student record and are at least "Temporarily Registered" or "Provisionally Registered" on their chosen programme. Students fall into the following categories.
- Undergraduate
- Taught Postgraduate
- Research Postgraduate
UCard expiry dates will be set according to the length of your programme of study, computer accounts are linked to your registration status.
Student Ucard
Student UCards have the following uses.
- Photographic ID
- Library borrowing
- Access to buildings (contact Estates department)
- Discounted prices at USport
- Self-Service Photocopying and Printing
- Access to the Student Union

Student Computing Account
Student Computing Accounts give the user access to the following services
- University managed computing
- Network storage
- University Email account
- Wireless Internet (eduroam)
- Library services and e-resources
Getting your UCard and Account
Main Registration Period
Prior to your arrival you will be guided through the pre-registration process. Your UCard and Account will then be issued during Intro Week.
Outside the Main Registration Period
Prior to your arrival you will be guided through the pre-registration process. Once registered you will need to bring one of the following to the CiCS Computing Centre on Hounsfield Rd where your UCard and Computing Account will be issued:
- Registration statement
- Passport
- Driver's licence
- Other photographic identification
