New Features of uSpace
uSpace will be upgraded on the weekend of the 26th/27th February 2011 to provide a more reliable service. The upgrade will also introduce some new features including:
- Improved Editor in response to customer feedback
- Copy and pasting text is more consistent across different web browsers
- Tables and links work more smoothly
- Improved uploading of images
There have been other recent improvements in the following areas of uSpace
Document Authoring
There are substantial improvements to document authoring.
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and PDF documents can be uploaded into uSpace, and then edited within uSpace.
- Office 2007 documents can be uploaded in addition to earlier Office versions. However, there is currently an issue with earlier versions of Excel.
- New documents can still be created within uSpace and this is the recommended way to collaboratively author documents.
Your Documents and Discussions
You have your own space for documents, aptly named 'Your Documents'.
- You can create documents and store then in Your Documents rather than in a specific space or group.
- You can grant permissions for individual people to view or edit each document.
- You will be able to have private discussions restricted to the people you want, outside of spaces and groups.
Finding Content
There are also improvements to the structure of spaces and groups.
- It will be easier to view the structure of uSpace.
- It will be easier to locate spaces and subspages.
- You will be able to follow spaces as well as groups.
- The search feature will be more streamlined to enable quicker access.
Additional Improvements
Finally, there are some brand new features as well as some more subtle improvements:
- The emails notifying you of new content are greatly improved.
- Social bookmarking will be introduced. This means you can bookmark content for future access and share your bookmarks with others.
- The activity stream will show more information about new and edited content.
- You will be able to personalise your view of uSpace using new drag and drop widgets.
