uSpace House Rules

The following are the guidelines by which you and all other users of the uSpace Community must abide by and should be read in conjunction with the IT Code of Practice and if appropriate the Terms and Conditions for External User Accounts.

We want you to have an enjoyable experience in the uSpace community. The house rules help to maintain a friendly and supportive atmosphere whilst protecting all who read or contributes to the community. We hope our community will be a place for fun, informative and interesting interactions, for sharing opinions, participating and a useful resource.

When using uSpace:

  1. You must act responsibly and have respect for other users.
  2. You are directly responsible and liable for every posting, publication and all activity under your name within uSpace i.e. "You own your own words".
  3. You must own the copyright or have appropriate permission to use third party copyrighted material, and fully attribute its original author. For further information on copyright issues please see Copyright and Online Environments.
  4. You will retain the moral rights of what you create and publish.
  5. Other members can quote your words with accompanying attribution.
  6. The community supports a culture of helping one another.
  7. You need to respect equality and diversity.
  8. You must not insult or be abusive to other community users.
  9. Any tagging should be relevant and appropriate to the topic.
  10. You are encouraged to give advice within uSpace; please do so only when asked and be sensitive.

Think before you 'Submit'

Remember, privacy settings vary throughout the community. It is advised that you consider your published content to be public and archived for a long time. Your comments and content should not, therefore, bring the University into disrepute.

So to prevent being misunderstood, try to be clear about what you say. Please don't use all capitals. Check your content before submitting, particularly for typographical and literal errors.

It is also important to note that you should be careful not to compromise your own intellectual property rights by prematurely disseminating material via the 'public' web as this could invalidate future patent claims or prejudice publication in academic journal.

Reporting Inappropriate Content and Abuse

Where available please use the Report Abuse tool within uSpace to report inappropriate content and abuse.
