Windows Client (Vista)
- Click the Start menu, then Control Panel and select Network and Sharing Center.
- Select Set up a connection or network.
- Select Connect to a workplace - click Next.
- Select Use my Internet Connection (VPN) - click Next.
[You may be asked if you want to use an existing connection or set up a new connection - choose the latter.] - When prompted for an Internet address and Destination name, enter:
Internet address: vpn.shef.ac.uk
Destination name: your choice (a label for your connection)
Ensure that Use a smart card is unchecked - click Next. - Enter your Remote Access Username and Password.
Select Remember this password - click Connect.
Creating a VPN (PPTP) shortcut on your Desktop
- Click the Start menu, then Control Panel and select Network and Sharing Center.
- Select Manage network connections.
- Drag and drop your VPN icon to your desktop.
In future, when you double click this shortcut, you will be presented with a connection box. Click Connect to be connected to the VPN service.
