Windows Client (Vista)

  1. Click the Start menu, then Control Panel and select Network and Sharing Center.
  2. Select Set up a connection or network.
  3. Select Connect to a workplace - click Next.
  4. Select Use my Internet Connection (VPN) - click Next.
    [You may be asked if you want to use an existing connection or set up a new connection - choose the latter.]
  5. When prompted for an Internet address and Destination name, enter:

    Internet address: vpn.shef.ac.uk
    Destination name: your choice (a label for your connection)

    Ensure that Use a smart card is unchecked - click Next.
  6. Enter your Remote Access Username and Password.
    Select Remember this password - click Connect.

Creating a VPN (PPTP) shortcut on your Desktop

  1. Click the Start menu, then Control Panel and select Network and Sharing Center.
  2. Select Manage network connections.
  3. Drag and drop your VPN icon to your desktop.

In future, when you double click this shortcut, you will be presented with a connection box. Click Connect to be connected to the VPN service.
