Case Studies
These case studies showcase CILASS funded educational development projects at the University of Sheffield. We hope they'll give a good idea of work CILASS has been doing and the impact it has had on teaching and learning at Sheffield.
We have developed two kinds of case study. The first is an IBL Design Overview which focuses on the inquiry pedagogy underlying the project - what the students did, how the project leaders supported their activities and what they learnt from the project. We have termed the second sort of case study an IBL Development Case. This focuses more on the strategic underpinnings of the project, how it was put together, how the different parts of the project fitted together and the overall impact upon the department. Blank template for these can be accessed via the link on the right of this webpage.
In addition, the DeSILA project created a number of case studies of IBL projects using LAMS (Learning Activity Management System), a pedagogic design tool. These are available in the JISC format via the link to the right. We have also adopted these into individual case studies to focus more upon the inquiry elements of the projects. These design cases can be accessed via the 'subject index' link or the 'desila' tag in the tag cloud below.
There are plenty of other resources - teaching materials, student work, podcasts and screencasts that show you just how rich and varied the projects have been.
You can take away as much or as little as you like and there is a useful 'tag cloud' offering keyword access to exactly the case study you're interested in.
