Academic Fellowship Scheme
The Centre for Inquiry-based Learning in the Arts and Social Sciences (CILASS) invites expressions of interest to its Academic Fellowship Scheme from academic and professional services staff who support teaching and learning from any department in the University, from the equivalent of Lecturer to Professorial level.
The Fellowship scheme aims to bring expertise into CILASS from within the University. We currently seek to appoint two Fellows in the area of inquiry-based learning (IBL). Whilst the main focus of activity to date of the CILASS programme is within the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, CILASS aims to facilitate cross-disciplinary exchange of expertise and knowledge in inquiry-based learning. The Fellowships are therefore open to academic and professional services staff from across the University as a whole.
Joining the CILASS core team for the duration of their secondment, Fellows will provide specialist expertise at a strategic and operational level to CILASS´s development and research programmes, participating in promoting CILASS´s aims and building a vibrant community of practice in inquiry-based learning across the University of Sheffield and beyond. It is envisaged that each Fellow will lead at least one significant research project during their period of secondment.
Fellowships will be awarded for one year. This is likely to be on a one-day per week (0.2) basis, though there is some flexibility for greater or lesser involvement to be negotiated with individuals if desirable. The secondments will provide `buy out´ of Fellows´ time at their existing salary costs, to provide for pro rata remission of existing duties for the duration of the secondment. In addition, in recognition of their excellence in teaching and/or facilitation of learning in areas of relevance to CILASS, an award of £1,000 will be made to each Fellow, to be spent on activities and/or resources relating to their personal teaching or research.
For an informal discussion about the Fellowship scheme and role, please contact Dr Philippa Levy, Academic Director of CILASS, on x25271 or via email at p.levy@sheffield.ac.uk
